Father Patrick Fixsen

Father Patirck FixsenOne of the remarkable things about the priesthood is how everything learned in the past becomes very useful for ministry in the priesthood. Before I was ordained a priest by Bishop Daniel Jenky, C.S.C. in May of 2007, I worked in the commercial flooring industry with my father. We installed flooring in many high profile construction projects in San Diego, California where I was born. Until the year 2000, I never thought about doing anything different. But when my father decided he wanted to retire, I made the decision to go in a different direction with my life. After a year of questioning what really made me happy, and prodding by my former pastor in San Diego, Msgr. Peter Mimnaugh, I decided to prepare myself for life as a priest.

In 2003, Bishop Jenky accepted me into the Vocations Program here in the Diocese of Peoria. There really wasn’t a better place to be a priest than in the diocese where my Catholic roots began. My mom was from Wenona, IL and I was even blessed with beginning my vocation process in my family’s parish, St. Mary’s in Wenona. From there I studied in Weston, MA at Blessed John XXIII National Seminary which was put in place for later vocations and it was a great experience. All of my classmates had held previous occupations from serving as a Marine colonel to a lawyer to a factory worker. And we all had one thing in common which was a love of Jesus Christ.

In 2007, after my ordination, I was assigned to St. Joseph’s Church in Pekin, IL. as an assistant to Msgr. Tim Nolan in serving the Pekin community. It was a great first assignment as a priest with many great relationships that were started with some very wonderful people in ministries to the school children, the homebound, nursing homes and a bereavement group. Then after three years, I was moved for a short assignment at Epiphany Church in Normal, IL. Following my assignment there, I was given Holy Trinity Church and St. Patrick Church in Arlington by Bishop Jenky in January of 2011 to be their administrator. This too has been a truly wonderful experience.

God works in ways we truly don’t understand until we have a chance to look back at what has happened in our lives. The people of God make serving Him so worthwhile it is hard to describe. And even with the challenges that arise, God will always be with those who both worship and serve Him. So as God has been with me, may God always be with you and bless you! Thank you for visiting the Holy Trinity Catholic Church website and please come back again as elements will be changing constantly.
